Blue Earth Capital AG (“BlueEarth”), an independent global impact investment firm, is proud to partner with the Versorgungswerk der Ärztekammer Hamburg KdöR (“HAEK”). This marks the first private markets impact investment of the pension fund. The goal of their investment is to deliver measurable social and environmental impact alongside attractive and sustainable financial returns. HAEK is committing to two separate strategies: PG Impact Investments II, which focuses on emerging markets and invests in key sectors (financial inclusion, affordable housing, energy access, food/agriculture, healthcare, education, and job creation) in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The fund invests across the capital structure (equity and debt) through direct investments and selected fund partnerships. The climate impact growth strategy aims to support the Net-Zero transformation by providing growth capital to companies driving decarbonization through the energy transition ecosystem, buildings and mobility, climate intelligence, production and consumption, and food and agriculture. This program will focus on Europe & North America.
Urs Wietlisbach, co-founder and Chairman of the Board of BlueEarth, states, “Mobilizing private capital is key to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and we are pleased to partner with HAEK to put capital to work addressing some of the most pressing societal and environmental challenges globally.”
Christoph Gerstberger, Managing Director of Versorgungswerk der Ärztekammer Hamburg, says: ” We are convinced that private impact investments play a crucial role in the sustainability revolution. This fundamental shift will also create significant business opportunities for the future. We believe that we can achieve attractive financial returns for our beneficiaries whilst creating significant positive social and environmental impact.”
The Versorgungswerk der Ärztekammer Hamburg is the funded mandatory pension scheme for Hamburg’s healthcare professionals with assets of around 6.5 billion euros. The pension fund was established in 1971 and now has around 19,000 eligible members and approximately 5,000 beneficiaries.
